Building the Mind

Bliss

My mom daily tells me "What you build in the body you build in the Mind."  From workouts to rest how  we train our bodies trains our minds and what we build in the mind pushes the body - in this circular way we grow.
Majority of our time in rowing is spent pushing ourselves to the limit - we wake up and train before the sun and then go and train until after the sun has set.  In between we must work jobs and take care of our bodies.  At the elite level, racing is as much of a mind and pain tolerance game as it is strength and endurance.  We must continually tell ourselves that our goal is worth more than any pain we can physically or mentally endure.  I am learning that to balance this there must also be rest, there must also be love and bliss, and calm - this time of peace and calm helps us detox the build up of stress, it creates space for retrospection, it allows our bodies to heal from a season of heavy training, and it allows for a build up of passion, excitement, dedication, and motivation.  Sometimes I have to learn the hard way but right now I am learning how to rest - I am building peace in the mind.
